Consumer exploitation of the elderly involves the illegal or unfair use of an older person’s money—often on an ongoing basis—by various parties, such as business owners, service providers, or even private individuals who fraudulently pose as legitimate businesses.

This form of financial abuse, which preys on the social and economic vulnerability of older adults as well as their limited familiarity with digital tools, is a growing phenomenon worldwide. Its consequences can be severe, harming not only a older adults financial security but also their sense of independence, self-confidence, and trust in others.

Through this project, Marva conducts lectures and workshops for older adults, their families, and professionals working with older adults. These sessions aim to raise awareness of consumer exploitation by introducing different types of fraud, identifying warning signs, and offering practical tools to prevent and respond to exploitation.
